Roofing Contractor in Contra Costa County, CA

Contra Costa County is within our service range, with Martinez about 41 minutes from the Webster St office in Alameda and the far east end farther out. The county is not one kind of roof market. It runs from a salt-air refinery shoreline in West County, through oak-covered hills where wildfire rules shape roofing choices, to a hot, windy edge at the Sacramento–San Joaquin Delta. A roof that suits Richmond can be the wrong specification in Orinda. We start with where the house sits, then pick the covering and the repair plan.

One county, three kinds of roof

Contra Costa spans the shoreline, the hills and the Delta edge, and each stretch asks something different of a roof. The table shows what changes as you move east.

Stretch of the countyWhat differsWhat we check first
West County shoreline (Richmond, Crockett, Rodeo)Salt air and refinery-side windSealant, exposed nail heads, metal flashing
Lamorinda and the oak hillsFire-hazard mapping, heavy leaf fallRoof fire rating, gutter loading
Central valley (Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, Martinez)Mid-century ranch roofsVent layout, layers, decking
Delta edge (Antioch, Brentwood, Oakley)Hot, windy, newer subdivisionsUnderlayment age, tile or shingle wear

Which building department signs off your roof

The permit authority changes by address, not by the county line. The County handles unincorporated parcels plus Clayton, Hercules, Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda. Every other city runs its own office. Your mailing address can say Martinez or Walnut Creek while the parcel sits outside the city, so check before assuming. Ask the estimate to name who pulls the permit.

Roofing services we bring to Contra Costa homes

  • Roof Replacement

In fire-hazard hills the covering has to meet a fire rating, so replacement starts with a code check on the parcel. In Lamorinda that can change the product, and every bid should price the same specification.

  • Roof Repair

Shoreline salt air and Delta-edge sun wear sealant and flashing at different speeds, so a Richmond repair and an Oakley repair are rarely the same job. We trace the leak first, then match the fix to its cause.

  • Storm Damage Roofing

Strait and Delta winds lift edge and ridge shingles. We photograph the damage inside and out, write the scope for the repair, and meet your insurer's adjuster on site to walk the roof.

  • Gutters

Oak and pine hill lots fill gutters with debris, so guttering is sized and pitched with leaf load in mind. Orinda and Lafayette lots under tall trees get the closest look at downspouts and outlets.

  • Emergency Roof Repair

A sealed leak is the first job anywhere in the county. Martinez is about 41 minutes out and the far east end takes longer, so travel time is stated plainly on the call before anyone books.

  • Roof Inspection

One county mixes fire-zone hills, shoreline air and Delta sun, so a photographed inspection that records covering, layers and decking gives you a clean basis for comparing bids on the same specification.

  • Attic Venting Repair

Inland summers in the central and east county run hotter than Alameda's, and trapped attic heat wears shingles from below. Attic venting repairs are on our Google listing and often pair with a reroof.

Fire-zone roofs in Orinda, Moraga and Lafayette

The State Fire Marshal's 2025 maps put very high severity areas in 12 Contra Costa cities. In mapped zones, a roof assembly must reach Class A for new construction and for reroofs over half the roof area, per State Fire Marshal rules. That affects the product choice and sometimes the underlayment too. Confirm your parcel in the CAL FIRE viewer before you collect bids, so every bid prices the same specification.

Shoreline air, strait wind and comparing county bids

Salt air and refinery-side wind are a West County matter. Standard Oil began the Richmond refinery in 1901, and the shoreline around it takes bay wind with little to break it, so exposed nail heads and unprotected metal wear first. Along the strait at Martinez, steady wind works on ridge caps and edge shingles. Neither problem looks like an oak-hill roof in Orinda, where leaf fall and the fire rating decide the job.

That is why three county bids can differ for good reason. Before you compare them, check that each one states the roof covering and its fire rating, the number of layers found, an allowance for soft decking, and which office issues the permit. A bid missing any of those four is not yet comparable to the others.

From Webster St to the county seat and beyond

Martinez is about 41 minutes away, and that is the closest anchor in the far-flung east county. Bridge and freeway routes make the real figure vary, so allow extra at commute hours. One office contact stays with you from inspection to final walkthrough.

Roofing in Contra Costa County: common questions

Does Contra Costa County issue my roofing permit?

Only if your home is in an unincorporated area or in Clayton, Hercules, Lafayette, Moraga or Orinda, which contract with the County. Every other city, including Richmond, Martinez and Walnut Creek, has its own building department. Look up your parcel, then confirm who issues the permit. Our written estimate states who pulls it.

Do fire-zone rules change what roof I can install?

In a mapped fire hazard severity zone, a reroof that replaces more than half the roof generally needs a Class A rated assembly, per State Fire Marshal rules. Not every Contra Costa hillside is mapped. Check your parcel in the CAL FIRE zone viewer and ask your building department, then tell us before we write the estimate.

Can you reach the east county Delta cities?

We cover the whole county. Martinez is about 41 minutes from Alameda, and Antioch, Brentwood and Oakley are farther. Highway 4 and Highway 24 traffic changes the figure by a wide margin, so we give a visit window on the call and not a guaranteed arrival.
