Roofing Contractor in Solano County, CA

We take roofing calls across Solano County from our base at 1910 Webster St in Alameda, but the county is long and so is the drive. Fairfield is roughly 66 minutes and 44 miles away, longer in commute traffic. Vallejo and Benicia, the two cities on the Carquinez Strait, are the closest and the most practical for us. Vacaville and Dixon sit beyond the radius we work in.

Carquinez Strait wind and the Montezuma Hills

Wind is the first thing that separates Solano County roofs from Alameda roofs. The Strait funnels air between the bay and the Delta, and the Collinsville-Montezuma Hills wind resource area west of Rio Vista carries more than 750 turbines, by the City of Rio Vista's count. Roofs in that corridor lose ridge caps, rake edges and loose tabs before they lose anything else.

On a replacement, that means careful nailing, sealed starter courses and drip edge set tight at the eaves. On a repair, it means checking the edges and ridge of the whole roof, not only the patch you can see. Vallejo and Benicia add a second factor: many homes there are decades old, with layered roofs and aged decking that only show up at tear-off. If a change order comes up, we explain it before work continues.

Which building department covers your address

Solano County has seven cities: Benicia, Dixon, Fairfield, Rio Vista, Suisun City, Vacaville and Vallejo. Each runs its own building department. Parcels outside those limits fall to the county's building division in Fairfield, per third-party permit guides. Confirm this with the county for your address, because rules and fees change.

The estimate states who pulls the permit, and you should confirm it before signing. For historic homes in Benicia and Vallejo, ask before changing the look of the roof. Our pages for Vallejo and Benicia go into those two cities, and Fairfield and Suisun City have their own pages.

Roofing services for Solano County homes

  • Roof Repair

Wind lifts shingle edges and ridge caps along the Strait first, so small repairs matter before the next gust. We check every edge and the whole ridge, since one lifted tab usually has company.

  • Roof Replacement

Older Vallejo and Benicia roofs often reach tear-off age; a new roof can be nailed for the wind it will see. Tear-off also shows the decking, and any change order is explained before work moves on.

  • Storm Damage Roofing

Strait wind and winter storms damage roofs here; we document the damage for your insurer and write the scope. We write the scope and can meet the adjuster on site; the claim itself is yours, your insurer's or a licensed public adjuster's to negotiate.

  • Emergency Roof Repair

A tarp or temporary seal is the first step on a leak, with timing set by crew availability and the drive. Vallejo and Benicia are the easier calls, and we say plainly if your address is too far.

  • Roof Inspection

A written inspection with photos suits an older Vallejo or Benicia house before a sale or the first wet month. It records ridge, edges, flashing and decking, so repairs follow evidence and not guesses.

  • Roof Maintenance

In a wind corridor, a yearly check of ridge caps, rake edges and sealant lines catches loose pieces early. Maintenance suits Strait-side homes where the wind works at the same weak spots each season.

  • Historic Home Roofing

Vallejo's Heritage District and downtown Benicia hold some of the county's oldest houses. Ask the city about design review first, then match pitch, color and material to what the review allows.

Interstate 80, Interstate 680 and the Strait crossings

Solano County reaches us by two bridges. Interstate 80 crosses the Carquinez Bridge into Vallejo, and Interstate 680 crosses the Benicia-Martinez Bridge into Benicia. Both crossings slow at commute hours, so the first call helps us pick a realistic window.

The county was created in 1850, and its housing shows that spread. Vallejo and Benicia hold the oldest streets, where layered roofs and plank decking are common. Fairfield and Suisun City lie farther up Interstate 80 and have their own pages. Rural parcels toward Rio Vista are the long end of the drive, and we tell you honestly if an address is beyond what we can schedule sensibly.

Booking a visit when the drive is an hour

Call the office and describe the roof. Wayne or Pedro often does the inspection, and aerial photos help on steep or multi-section roofs. You get a detailed written estimate, and photos and updates by text or email through the job. Alameda customers have reported estimates scheduled for the next day and a visit within hours of a call.

Solano is farther out, so expect scheduling to depend on the crew's day and on bridge traffic. A leak call from Vallejo or Benicia is easier to reach than one from Vacaville. If water is coming in, say so on the first call, and we will tell you straight what is possible.

“I had an ongoing issue with leaking skylights after a past roof replacement done by another roofer.”
Emilia K. · Google review · 2026
“I previously hired Apex Shield Roofing for some smaller roof leak repairs, so I already knew their work before getting a full roof replacement this time. … I would recommend them to anyone in Alameda looking for trustworthy and skilled roofers for repairs or new installations.”

Roofing in Solano County: common questions

Do you work in Vacaville or Dixon?

Not from this page. Vacaville and Dixon are beyond the radius we serve, and the drive from Alameda is long enough that we would rather say so than promise a schedule. If you are on the western side of the county, call and ask about your address.

Who issues the roofing permit on an unincorporated Solano County parcel?

Solano County's building division issues permits outside city limits, and each of the seven cities runs its own department. Whoever pulls the permit, the estimate should say so in writing. Confirm the rule for your address with the county before work starts.

How can I tell if Strait wind has damaged my roof?

Look from the ground for missing or lifted ridge caps, tabs sitting proud of the roof and exposed nail heads along the rakes. The Montezuma Hills area west of Rio Vista carries more than 750 turbines, per the City of Rio Vista, which shows how steady the wind is in southern Solano. Photograph anything you find before any repair, for your insurer.
